I think you glided right past my larger point about outsourcing, and
about the obvious alternative to _any_ 'hosting company' -- so I'll 
re-stress it just once:

Some of us prefer to self-host our data, especially data critical to 
our interests.  This is one of the key successes of open source, making
it possible, if so desired, to have one's own computing infrastructure under
local sysadmin and developer control from top to bottom (or at least the
portions of one's computing infrastructure for which that is feasible and
economically reasonable).

Of course, in all eras of computing, outsourcing to proprietary business
interests has had its fans.  (I note without comment your mail domain.  ;->  )
So, different people will draw the line differently.
