Sarah, I'd either not been aware of this or had forgotten, and either
way I apologise for not ensuring that you were consulted.

In that regard, the present fait-accompli outcome is a little awkward,
in that Kevin says he has now implemented renaming within the Meetup, Inc.
closed system, and so I'm honestly not sure whether something different
should now be done. If you have ideas, I'm sure Kevin would be open to
hear them. Offhand, one way would be for you, possibly in conjunction
with other Meetup organisers to create a new Meetup group called 'SVLUG
- Silicon Valley Linux User Group. But this is outside of my area of
knowledge, because...

I've been a non-Meetup person as a matter of policy, and have personal
views on the subject that I don't vent here[1], but there's an essay called
'Meetup: The Good, the Bad, and the Policy' on my Web site that covers
the matter.

I'd be glad to be fully supportive of any such thing, and will happily
make sure such an event gets listing on the front page of www.svlug.org
and a timely announcement on the svlug-announce mailing list (which as a
reminder also goes here). All that's necessary is someone declaring the
date/time/place with an implied commitment to be there to make it
happen.
