A while ago I had a thinkpad tablet (think it was an x41) working out of 
the box with mint 9

Sorry to be so vague, but if you are looking for distro's that support 
tablets, that would be an easy place to start.
Of course, being mint, it will probably work on other ubuntu flavors too.
