<cough>  That was busybox's cheap imitation of a dhcp server.  If you
aren't worried about using a couple MB of disk space, you could install
a real DHCP server: apt-get install isc-dhcp-server.  I'm afraid I
wasn't paying close attention, and assumed you were stuck with
busybox's typically limited version of a real Unix program due to
system constraints; if you aren't then this is one of those "the
headache will go away if you stop beating your head on the wall" deals.
