If you are using xorg, have a look at the xorg.conf(5) man page.  There
is also a setting within 2.6 kernel configuration that has references to
ACPI and screen blanking.

# settings of xorg.conf
Option "BlankTime"  "time"
Option "StandbyTime"  "time"
Option "SuspendTime"  "time"
Option "OffTime"  "time"
