Thanks for that, Jeremy, this is closer to what I want to know. This is 
rather annoying, because the same card works just fine under Windows 
without much hassle and not under Linux (just from a user's 
perspective). Maybe I should just shell out few bucks to get Audigy 
sound card (how much are they nowadays anyway?) OK, I'll give that 
reading a go and see if I am adventurous enough to try it.
