Re: Alsa Sound + channels

As far as I know, the only sound chip that alsa can use to do hardware
mixing is the Emu10k1, used in most Creative cards now (sblive, audigy,
etc) and a few higher-end motherboards. Otherwise, you can do some weird
stuff with the dmix plugin to get it working, but it's messy and doesn't

I've got it set up, but most programs seem not to be able to use it - if
xmms is playing, only a few programs can also grab the sound card (and
most of those programs are also music players, which is fairly
redundant...) On the other hand, alsa on my SB live works fine with as
many channels as I need, with no dmix or anything.
