Nah, that's not the case. I have made sure that the sound is turned on. 
Maybe you can do a test for me. Find 2 WAV files, and on 2 different 
console session type aplay <wavfilename>, see if you can get the two 
files to play at the same time.

I think I saw an article on PC Authority this month's edition by Leigh 
Dyer about configuring alsa. I'll see if I can find a copy and then 
we'll see how it goes.
