Sounds like your problem was more "wobble" than "flicker". If that's the case, it's caused by a stray magnetic field. Lead will do nothing to fix this. You need to either implement magnetic shielding (usually done with certain metals - not lead), or simply use a LCD monitor, as LCDs are unaffected by magnetic fields.
