Re: DVB card

Sorry, my card is just a DVB-T (Terrestrial) you can also get a -S
(Satillite) and a -C (Cable), the cable one I know of I think will do
Foxtel(stra) as I think they use a card, but I think the Optus ones use
a MAC address the same as a network card
 
If you want to get into a Home Theater, if you wish to buy one, check
out www.d1.com.au (Burwood) who are making a Myth powered box, or check
out MythTV for a great and multi-talented program, the current version
is up to 0.18 at the moment (I found 0.17 and under a bit unstable)

If you wish to use the Optus decoder, maybe you could get a IR
transmitter and couple it to your computer IR port to signal the decoder
to change cannels (Hmm thats a idea)...
 
I'm just using a DVB-T card with a cheap pair of Rabbit Ears sittng
haphazzardly on the top of the computer monitor, I should get a propper
antenna at some stage, some channels are not as clear as I want them to
be ;o(

Hi Rod,

    I saw your posting on the MLUG list. I am going to move permanently

to Melbourne at the end of the month, and of my projects will be to 
build and Home Theatre PC with Linux (media center) as I posted a few 
days ago on the newbie list.

    I was wondering if the DVB card you bought allows you to watch
cable 
TV. In particular, I was also wondering if there are legal ways for me

to watch Optus cable programs with Linux, with/without using their 
decoder. I would be particularly interested indeed in recording from TV

using Linux (PVR).

    I thank you in advance for your help.
