RE: IPCop upgrade

Hello Andrew(s),

I have been running IPCOP since Andrew(?) gave the demonstration on
version 1.2 at the meeting some years ago, on a Pentium 200 with 192 MB
Ram and 200 MB HDD. It currently runs IPCOP 1.4 with all 5 upgrades
without a hickup. It did require a fresh install and it did not like the
backup disk from 1.3, but once manually configured, it works great and
has done since 1.4 came out. Connecting to Optus cable.

I would have thought that you were running v1.3.0.... with the patches. 
That is what I run and recommend unless you must have some of the new 
features of 1.4 such as having a BLUE wireless network.

I haven't looked closely at the IPCOP lists for about a month now as I
have 
been very busy, but my understanding is that 1.4 needs greater resources

(generally speaking) and although some optimizations have taken place, 
personally I wouldn't be installing 1.4 on anthing less than a PII
machine 
with 64MB of RAM.

The backup is written as a raw tar file, not to a file system on the
floppy. 
If you want to extract it to the desktop machine (assuming it is running

Linxu ;) ), then you should do the following:
  dd if=/dev/fd0 of=backup-ipcop.tar
Then you will have a tar file of the backup.
