Melbourne job: Linux Network Engineer / Systems Administrator # Deep Linux/Unix and networking expertise required # Building and administration of an advanced data capture network # Highly technical role in a highly technical organization Here's a killer opportunity for someone with deep Linux (or possibly Unix) and networking knowledge. You'll be working on building and implementing a globally distributed network of Linux devices that capture and transmit an extremely high volume of Internet usage data. You'll need outstanding knowledge of Linux or Unix systems administration and an outstanding knowledge of networking - TCP/IP, security, switches, routers, DNS, firewalls, packet filtering, NAT, routing protocols. Perl and shell scripting experience is highly valued. You'll need the skill and experience with hardware and operating systems so you can build machines up from scratch and sort out hardware problems and ensure that your systems are properly configured for deployment into the global network. You'll be working on big ISP networks and although you won't be working in a data centre on a daily basis, you'll need to have experience working in a data centre environment and be comfortable in and familiar with data centres. This is an operations role too, so you'll be responsible for maintaining the flawless and consistent performance of your global data capture network. That means that you must have experience in systems admin and operations and have experience keeping systems running reliably and consistently. You'll need to have the skill to specify the operational process and procedures as well as the ability to execute them consistently. There will be occasional interstate and possibly international travel (U.S. and U.K.) required. You will also be on call 24 X 7 - but a low volume of callouts is expected. You'll be working in a small project group of about four people within a large technical team. This is a highly technically driven company and you'll be in company with some of the smartest minds in Australian Internet technology. You must have excellent communication skills as you will be talking technical with network engineers from other organizations in Australia and around the world, and working to integrate the data capture systems into their networks. You'll need to be very good at self-management and prioritization of your workload. Formal qualifications are valued but not essential. Appropriate operating system or networking certifications valued but not essential. Please note that this role requires significant demonstrable deep experience in networking. Please make sure that your resume/cover letter specifically addresses this requirement. Please be sure to specify the salary that you are seeking. We cannot accept international or interstate applications. If this role sound like you then please send your resume to [email protected]
