Melbourne job - Senior Software Engineer - C++ # Former games programmers - we want you! # Back-end development in a Linux/Unix/Posix environment # Exceptional understanding of object oriented principles We're looking for an exceptional software engineer who has worked on complex, resource intensive systems with very large data sets. C++ must be the language in which you have your greatest strength. You must see the world in object oriented terms and all your development must be highly object oriented. You'll need to have outstanding computer science fundamentals - algorithms and data structures - and you'll need to have applied those fundamentals frequently to solving real world problems, constantly practicing your skills with design and development of resource efficient and high performance computer programs. You'll need to know how to squeeze every cycle of performance out of the computer and you'll need to know how to make every byte count when tearing through enormous data sets. This is not games development, but if you've got considerable games development experience using C++ then the chances are that you've developed the skills that we need in developing optimized data structures and using the most efficient algorithms for processing that data. You'll be developing back-end code in a Linux/Unix/Posix environment - we're talking Vi or emacs and command line oriented development. You will be working at the application level so we do not have a requirement for low level (kernel/device driver) development experience. You'll need excellent knowledge of the C++ standard libraries and excellent experience with the build tools. Although this role does not have a large amount of SQL work, it is important that you have a good knowledge of working with SQL databases. You'll be working inside existing source code so you'll need the natural talent to quickly grok that code and rapidly improve, extend and refactor. We expect that someone of your profile will have developed skills with other languages such as Perl, Shell, C and PHP. You must have excellent practical experience working with CVS or Subversion. Ideally you will have worked within a development process that has a structured and formal approach to testing, and this will have given you insight into the right ways to ensure that software is effectively tested and QA'd. We're looking for someone who doesn't need to be micro managed - someone who can take the ball and run with it and won't need to be mothered to get the job done. You'll need to be bright and quick on the uptake. You'll be working in a small team within a large development group within a highly successful, highly technically driven company where merit is valued. We're looking for people who are friendly, pragmatic and easy to get along with - if you're an overly dogmatic person then this may not be the role for you. Appropriate relevant tertiary qualifications are required. Exceptional communication skills are required. Please be sure to specify the salary that you are seeking. We cannot accept international or interstate applications. If this role sound like you then please send your resume to [email protected]
