Personally I would be > much less confident with an AMD box. I haven't tried 64-bit, but i used AMD athlon (on debian-sid) because they're more power efficient for the same computing power. That third fan in the pc case is for hot pentiums;) (and hot graphics cards) That said, the best pentiums of all for power efficiency (imo) are the Pentium-3 M in laptops. Pentium 4 has a reputation for much heat and little work compared to a pentium 3. The speed and heat are only noticeable for compute-intensive tasks and poorly written bloated crap that doesn't know when to finish starting...
