When LCD displays started replacing CRTs there was a significant drop on power consumption. 200 Watt CRTs were replaced with a 50 Watt (15") LCD for a savings of 150 Watts. I see a trend towards larger displays and 40" or 50" displays might become typical in a few years. And those large displays will take even more power.
