Just took an .mpg to another machine.
It looks fine there.
So...  seems like there is a problem fairly deep on my client.
The client works fine for youtube, etc.
Perhaps gxine and mplayer share some library/hardware at some level
that is flipping colors.

not yet.  two antennas.
This weekend I intend to install the good antenna on the roof
and split.  We'll see how that goes.

Getting channel 13 here in central ABQ is tricky.  It seems to want
a totally different orientation, which is odd, since, AFAIK,
all the transmitters are on the crest.

The big difference with channel 13 is that I think it
is using UHF 16, which is close to a powerful UHF14.
I'm not sure what, if anything, happens at the switchover.
Will they start broadcasting digital on VHF13, or continue
to use pseudo-channel 13 id on UHF 16 (or whatever it is)

I cannot get channel 9 (PBS Santa Fe?).  bummer.
My TV can get 9, but the antenna I have for the TV has
rabbit-ears in addition to a UHF pitch-fork.

I touched something and the quality went up.
I dunno what that was.

Colors are still flipped on my desktop.
Both played through mythtv and mplayer.

Same file was fine at work.

I have gotten some data from there.
I'll go through in more detail to see if all matches.
