I have Asterisk at home running in an old machine since almost three
years ago,
I plugged a digium 400p card with three fxs, for fax, and two regular
wireless extensions,
and one fxo for qwest incoming, also have two voip phones in the mix, 
and several sip extensions for soft-phones, including
my laptop, family in south america, and friends in europe,

That said, if I had to reinstall, I'd use one two port ATA (<$100) for
the house extensions,
and would ditch qwest land line, meaning no digium card at all,

Also installed in couple of small business, works totally fine,

I use a mix of qwest, teliax for some extra DID numbers,
and freecall for some cheap outgoing channels,

I have both, two regular wireless and the aastra 480ict which comes with
a wireless handset,
and it's been better than the regular wireless,

not at all, worst case scenario is changing the setting on how you send
dtmf through the channel,
nothing to worry about,

any current popular distro like asterisknow or trixbox would install in
20 minutes without a glitch,
and will do so without echo problems that long ago took some time to
tweak,
