Hi, I'm a brazilian free software activist, and I readed your article "Why open source is unsustainable". I'd like to show you another point of view. Of course open source/free software is unsustainable, if you consider how things are, but do you really think the world will be the same after the globalization caused by the internet? See, record companies are becoming "unsustainable" because everyone is distributing music, telephone companies are becoming "unsustainable" because voip is making calls a lot cheaper (see Skype), book companies are becoming "unsustainable" because people are stopping to read books to read at the net. In this new world, of free information, having access to the information won't be a problem, but to categorize, analize and trust all this volumous information will be very important and expensive. I dont'think open source/free software is unsustainable, I think it is fair, and people will not get chance to be so rich like some company owners, capable of buying some countries... Anyway, sorry for bothering you, my message is just to remember you that this is a changing world, and you cannot analize things using old points of view. People said in the beginning the Internet would not be important, people said open source would never grow, and you know what happened, nobody is ready for this change. I'm listening "this wil not work" for years, and I'm still here, doing the same. []s, gandhi ps.: I'm sending this email to my mailing list too, maybe you can have some more feedbacks. ;-) -- Ricardo Andere de Mello Presidente do Quilombo Digital 55 11 3271-7928 _______________________________________________ Quilombodigital-filosofia mailing list Quilombodigital-filosofia-lWjjnNBg0S7cOli+L/M/[email protected] http://listas.quilombodigital.org/mailman/listinfo/quilombodigital-filosofia
