the other thing you could try is using the G.729 codec, as this uses
around 33kbps, as opposed to the ~84kbps used by G.711A-law. These are
the two most common codec in Australia. G.711A-law has 8 times the
data payload of G.729, but G.729 is usually of sufficient quality for
most purposes.
