Vista, Laptop & Networking

I have been having some problems with Windows Vista, and trying 2 get a
network (cable) connection working well.

 

It has a direct connection on the side of the laptop, and I have also tried
a usb adapter as well.  New Cable & I have checked it by connecting into my
desktop, works great.

 

Can anyone provide any advice.
