my Mum has a satellite receiver with a subscription card that she watches
TV programms with,

I wouldn't mind, occasionally, to watch news service from that broadcast;
(which probably is in the middle of the night);

so, I'm trying to figure out a simple and inexpensive way to
record/store/replay some of the contents;
something that I can remove recorded contents, and, 'take away'
there is NO computer in the house with the TV

I cam across this unit, which seems to fit the bill (about $70):

any other ideas/feedback ?
the satellite unit has RF out and video/audio out
