I would start investigating with "how can I reduce the noise in my walls" then; a failed socket indicates that your in-house wiring is not in a good state, generally. Worse luck, once the copper gets to your first phone point it stops being the telecoms company responsibility. So, unless that failed socket is the very closest to the outside you can figure that this is going to cost some...
