fwiw, this is an ancient Panasonic, low frequency, great range

well, yes, not sure if performance was that poor, abt. 8mb at abt. 2.1km
from exchange, 680MC CD iso in abt. 17 minutes

I'll try that, but, today I've replaced the power pack, as I've listened
on phone, the white noise came one after powering up adsl, then went off,
came back on as adls was connecting

I might wait till I get BigPond's ADSL unit and test that, as well as
other suggestions
