word docs

how it came about, my friend sent me a word doc with an invite to an event;
I told her 'you shouldn't send word docs'
- what should I send ?
- pdfs
- ok, so how do I make a pdf ?

cute pdf and pdfcreator are trivial to d/l, install, and, 'train' the user
openoffice is not

as much as I support the concept, I quit preaching long time ago
