Not knowing specifics of the IBM models, but even the same model number (from some vendors) can have different manufacturers and possibly different connectors. Often vendors like to spread supply of basic components (screens, hard disks, memory) around different OEMs to make sure they don't get stuck if an earthquake or typhoon hits. That said I fixed my Canon S60 camera LCD by cannibalising a broken S70 I bought for $25. I guess the worst case is if you buy a "wreck" on eBay and it doesn't fit, just on-sell it again.
