I've a client with a number of [not old] desktops that they wanted
repurposed as servers (sure, fine).

For whatever reason (either previous overheating, or dodgy power at a
previous office location) the video cards are all fried and, having
desktop motherboards†, the machines "helpfully" refuse to boot if
there's no working video card present. Lovely.
