I've only just came back to this problem

no, main board has no video card

I've installed Centos on another system, transferred to this machine,
tried booting Centos with an AGP video card (to runlevel 3), system traps
shortly after boot process starts;
tried booting Centos with a PCI video card (to runlevel 3), system traps
shortly after boot process starts;

(and, the red/green m/b LEDs starts flashing, from being solid green till
then)

it seems as... video path that's common to both PCI and AGP is at fault ?

anyhow, I thought I'd try to boot a headless Centos system

to allow Linux to boot withOUT a video card installed, what do I need to do ?

I found a howto suggesting I need to remove 'console=tty0' from lilo to
allow booting without a video card, is there more ?

then I can ssh to it, I don't need serial port output
