This sort of waste is still a waste - many devices (like the one I am
writing this on) have worse connectivity than a machine of five years back.

I would guess in this case that the HTML and support data only contributed a
handful of KB to the message, and the real evil was sending a TIFF business
card - and all that was caused by someone who has no idea what is or isn't
technically appropriate needing a computer to carry out business in the
modern world.
