thanks for the links

I tink I have them: 'google maps' says 5.3
'navigation' doesn't seem to show version, but I guess it's just a 'thing'
on top of maps

I was 'surprised' by the cacheing, it seems auto-magic, when I 1st
switched the phone, I didn't have 3g set up, so all I had was cell voice
and wifi;

I set a route for home (route was not optimal, fwiw), how way home, map
display said 'lost data connection', shortly after (as I drove onto
assigned route' map functionality came back; later I realized that my trip
was -pre cached from wifi when I 1st planned the route

the google mapping/nav is a lot better that I expected, though, routing is
lousy, ymmv

software functionality is way better that I was used to, dragging from nav
screen to browse screen is pretty good.
