I am strongly in favor of having an independent Chairperson appointed by the members at the AGM. Doing that, then handing the running of the GM over to the elected Chairperson is pretty standard procedure. This is what we should have been doing, and it's an error on my part that I didn't notice this, thus we haven't done so in the past few years.
