I don't think the activities list is a sufficient forum for this.
Consider:
- twittering
- sending to one of the linux-australia lists
- directly contacting some of the SIG's around that are perhaps having
attendance issues - though finding them will be tricky. Possible groups
are sypy, smug, ubuntu-* in sydney etc
