Re: becoming a Sun Certified Java Programmer?

i agree..i have a bachelors in Computer Science ...always toyed with the
idea of taking the test but never got around to it.  I have kept my
knowledge current by reading and of course through experience. Not once in
past 7 years (and that includes the first year) has a manager stressed on
the certificate. I have found keeping up with the developments in java and
taking up projects that challenge your knowledge and experience is the best
way out. I knew a guy who had a certificate in java and all he could write
was the signature of a method, he had no idea how to complete the body of a
method; no kidding. So i am not sure how good the certificate really is.
What is important is to understand the fundamentals of Java and programming
in general. Know about how to write efficient code, about memory management
(yes in java too) , know your patterns, understanding about the newer
techniques out there.
