Interesting discussion. I've heard people say the death of Moore's law is the death of java. That seems a bit too far, but I don't think java is dying. I think its more like the Hype Curve. Java is further advanced on the curve than many things. I agree with you that the proliferation of too many frameworks has led to a diluted understanding of J2EE among some, but I don't see Java crumbling.. at least not yet.
