I'm currently work on "How to write an essay" over at Wikibooks. I'm
also writing a DBQ (Document Based Question) in my history class. Our
teacher has given us a paper that she legally copied out of a textbook.
All of the primary history sources are from sources that would be in the
public domain, with the exception of a map showing election results.

The question is (reworded) "Was the election of Abraham Lincoln a
mandate for abolition of slavery in the US?"

Is it legally acceptable to reconstruct the primary resources (again,
all from the public domain) and the map of the election results? Also,
can I rewrite the question? I would the post the question, the primary
sources, and my finished essay.
