The Fink Project and Benjamin Reed are happy to announce the
availability of KDE 3.1 final.

KDE 3.1 Final has been released to Fink unstable.

Apart from the changes made by the KDE development team, the following
changes have been made:

* overall minor build fixes and cleanups
* fixes to some dependencies (including properly allowing use with
freetype-hinting)
* some crashes in kword have been fixed
* startkde now detects whether you have Apple's quartz-wm, and runs
with it instead of kwin. If you don't want to use Apple's window
manager, you can set "KDEWM=kwin" in your .xinitrc to get the old
behaviour.
* the mosfet-liquid theme engine has been updated to 0.9.6pre2

A note from the maintainer, Benjamin Reed:

"There are still some things that need updating before we have a
complete, 100% release of KDE, but for the most part, everything is
here now. If you are willing to help out, please enable unstable (as
per the http://fink.sourceforge.net/faq/usage-fink.php#unstable FAQ
entry) and open bugs on any problems you have at the bug tracker on the
Fink web site. This release is looking fairly solid, and the speed
difference as compared to the 3.0.7 release (and, to a lesser extent
the 3.1rc5 release) are noticable, but there's more testing that needs
to be done before it's ready for Fink stable."

Please keep in mind that the above mentioned software has been released
to the unstable section of Fink, thus you should be aware, that some
minor complications could arise.

On behalf of Benjamin Reed and the Fink Project.
