It would be nice if at least the fink core packages merely relied on gcc instead of the entire Xcode. Xcode is a huge package with many unnecassary things like Apple Inc. GUI development frameworks and other things: I personally don`t want to download this: free disk space, download bandwith/limit, a lot of proprietary software. https://github.com/kennethreitz/osx-gcc-installer I believe Fink should better use a binary or self-compileable gcc package like this. I furthermore don`t see the point why we should use proprietary software in order to compile mere OSS. ... and there is also builddarwin of the puredarwin project. Do you think of the proposed alteration i.e. to replace Xcode with oss-gcc as viable? All of our software compiles well with a mere gcc/g++; it can only be about acommodating build scripts.
