OS 11.6 detection, was Re: Is there an option similar to "make -I" in fink?

That’d do it, all right.   IIRC this has happened before.

Maybe using the kernel version is a holdover from trying to have Fink be usable on open Darwin platforms or if ‘sw_vers’ wasn’t a thing initially.
