I am a regular fink user, and use Emacs+auctex+latex for my everyday
work. A couple of remarks (I hope they don't sound to blunt)

    1. If you want to have a modern TeX installation, because you need
to exchange documents with others, I recommend to install a
modern version of texlive (MacTeX) at least 2020 better 2021.

    2. Auctex 11.87 is *very* old. I recommend to use the one provided
by emacs package system. I actually clone the auctex version from
the git server and compile it myself.

    3. Emacs, I also recommend to use a more modern Emacs version, at
least 27 better 28. I myself, again, clone it from the official
server and compile it, without any problems using fink.

But your needs might differ.
