Thanks for that info (I'm ok with blunt). It's always good to know how 
others use Fink.
Our texlive was from 2014 until recently and just got updated to 2021, 
which not surprisingly broke our auctex from 2012(!).

Since it was reported that the proposed auctex 12.3 works, I'll commit 
that soon (patches to improve behavior always welcome).
We also know that users sometimes use upstream's module package systems 
(such as pip, CPAN, etc). It's hard to integrate those into our package 
management, but we don't work against it since we can't possible cover 
every available module.

We currently don't have anyone maintaining emacs, which is why we're 
stuck at 26. Anyone who knows emacs can help us upgrade to 27, which 
might be as straightforward as just bumping the version in the package 
description.
