Ok, although in principle that should be doable it might take some time.

Remind me please in order to get the whole source tree on my machine I clone 
https://github.com/fink/fink-distributions.git

Oh, that is a debian approach, where low bandwith was a problem, sigh.

I personally prefer everything in one package but I can see that this might  break things on other places. I will have a look
