Package is found, but hangs after 25% is downloaded.  Tried many
many different mirrors, and master, but all behave the same.  I
tried going through the mirror selection process again, but that
didn’t see to make any difference either.
It seems that this can’t be a systemic problem, since I didn’t
see anything in the mailing list archives (unless I missed it??).
Any help appreciated!

Sounds like something specific to your location. Worked from 2
different networks for me.

If the automatic download via Fink keeps hanging, have you tried
manually downloading the file via your browser, then copying it to
/sw/src (or wherever your Fink root is)?
Thanks for the tip — that idea totally slipped my mind!  Here is a
strange thing — your idea worked fine on a different machine; I was
able to curl the .gz directly.  However, on the machine giving me
trouble, the download hangs in the same place - even when doing the
direct web download!??  I can’t see a reason why.
Regardless, I can download then sftp over to the machine that needs
it, put it in the /sw/src folder with all the other gz files.
I tried running the standard update command at that point, and told
fink to just use the file as-is, but it didn’t seem to work.  Could
you toss me a link to instructions on how to install from a local src
file?

I would guess the problematic computer is behind some firewall restrictions. Does this hang happen when fetching any other package on this machine?

It is certainly behind some firewall restrictions, but unfortunately a few levels up from the local machine, so I don’t have control (beyond asking for rules to be added or modified, which sometimes works, and sometimes doesn’t).

Strange, 99% of all packages downloaded with no issues in the past, and even in the past couple of weeks when I was having difficulty with libpng I was still able to install any packages that did not depend on that one.  As of today I can’t seem to get to anything any longer.  Either they time-out after a certain percentage is downloaded, or I am seeing checksum differences, which seems odd..

There must have been some changes upstream somewhere of my laptop.  When I get a chance I will bring it out of the firewall-ed environment and see if things work better on a different network.


There are no special instructions for using a manually downloaded src file. Fink just checks to see if the expected source file (file name and checksum check) match what's expected. So if the file you downloaded is saved to Fink's $prefix/src directory and the checksum matches, then the install should find the tarball and just work.

This time libpng worked flawlessly - thanks.
