gtk+2/gtkmm2.4 compilation failing because of ligjpeg problem

Dear all, i tried to install the latest versions of gtkmm2.4 and gtk+2. For both i get similar configuration warnings, complaining about a missing libjpeg.dylib, however, this file is located in the /sw/lib directory. checking for jpeg_destroy_decompress in -ljpeg... no configure: WARNING: *** JPEG loader will not be built (JPEG library not found) *** configure: error: *** Checks for JPEG loader failed.
