Dear Martin,

	Yes, that DID give me ideas.

	There was a conflicting library (somewhere) in "/usr/local/lib".

	Moving that out of the way, THEN doing "fink rebuild xml-parser- 
pm588", THEN rebuilding the shared-mime-info solved the problem.
