For GNOME2.4, you don't even need to run metacity first--however this 
is not true for GNOME2.0.x (10.2-gcc3.3).

Agreed.

For that matter, this may be useful for people using XFree86-4.4, since 
you can use quartz-wm with it, too, if you move it out of the way 
before you switch from Apple's X11 to XFree86 and then move it back.
