Layout 1 is better. This way, the user can view immediately what is the
purpose of the line.
More space within each column.
Or perhaps a dd, dt style, more easy to read.

<p>Layout 3...</p>
<dl>
<dt><tt style="white-space: nowrap;">Package: foo</tt></dt>
	<dd>The name of this fink package (available as the <tt
style="white-space: nowrap;">%n</tt> variable)</dd>
	<dt><tt style="white-space: nowrap;">Version: 1.0.0</tt></dt>
	<dd>The upstream version string for the package (available as the <tt
style="white-space: nowrap;">%v</tt> variable)</dd>
	<dt><tt style="white-space: nowrap;">Revision: 1</tt></dt>
	<dd>...</dd>
</dl>

with some css style it is much more flexible than tables.
