I am closing this bug because the reporter identified the cause themselves: an
old ~/.config/GIMP configuration directory was triggering the hard hang.
Renaming the directory resolved the issue. This is a user-specific
configuration problem, not a port defect. If there is an upstream GIMP bug with
config migration, it should be reported to GIMP upstream.
