A docking station, so I can use an external mouse/keyboard/monitor when
it is at home.

A decent keyboard (IBM's are great) so you don't go nuts on the road.

A decent sized screen so you can actually use the box without squinting
on the road.

Long battery life, for road trips, and so you can watch a DVD.

A DVD drive, so you have something to do on the plane besides hack.

If you've got the $$, the IBM Thinkpads are without peer.
