Looks like you're right, Intel used to put the minor version in the filename,
looks like they stopped doing that for recent firmwares ...

If you're talking about the linux-firwmare maintainer, the repo have a lot of
other firmware so a new release could be done and not contain changes for a
specific driver.
If you're talking about drm-kmod-firmware maintainer (which is me mostly) I
mainly did the tag to add the new amdgpu firmware.

I'll commit your patch after I do the patch for amd since you closed
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=291761 I guess you don't want
to fix yours ?
