i have a 15.0-stable install and am trying to find out how to upgrade to
15.1.

root@BigNAS:/etc/pkg # uname -a
FreeBSD BigNAS 15.0-STABLE FreeBSD 15.0-STABLE
stable/15-n283007-e4f02a72f7f6 GENERIC amd64

my FreeBSD.conf file

# To disable a repository, instead of modifying or removing this file,
# create a /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf file, e.g.:
#
#   mkdir -p /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos
#   echo "FreeBSD-ports: { enabled: no }" >
/usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf
#   echo "FreeBSD-ports-kmods: { enabled: no }" >>
/usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf
#
# Note that the FreeBSD-base repository is disabled by default.
#

FreeBSD-ports: {
   url: "pkg+https://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/latest",
   mirror_type: "srv",
   signature_type: "fingerprints",
   fingerprints: "/usr/share/keys/pkg",
   enabled: yes
}
FreeBSD-ports-kmods: {
   url: "pkg+https://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/kmods_latest_${VERSION_MINOR}",
   mirror_type: "srv",
   signature_type: "fingerprints",
   fingerprints: "/usr/share/keys/pkg",
   enabled: yes
}
FreeBSD-base: {
   url: "pkg+https://pkg.FreeBSD.org/${ABI}/base_release_${VERSION_MINOR}",
   mirror_type: "srv",
   signature_type: "fingerprints",
   fingerprints: "/usr/share/keys/pkgbase-${VERSION_MAJOR}",
   enabled: yes
}

i seen this on AI i believe but not working

To target FreeBSD 15.1 via |pkgbase|, create a temporary repository
override directory or edit |/usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/FreeBSD.conf|. Set
the |FreeBSD-base| URL to use the appropriate |base_release_1| or
version-specific endpoint and bypass strict OS version checks using the
appropriate |pkg| command flags.[1 <https://wiki.freebsd.org/pkgbase>, 2
<https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/freebsd-15-pkgbase-usage.102788/>, 3
<https://www.reddit.com/r/freebsd/comments/1u6nrz5/beware_of_upgrades_to_151/>]
Configuring a Temporary Override

  * Create a temporary directory: |mkdir /tmp/upgrade-15.1|
  * Write the override configuration: |echo 'FreeBSD-base: { url:
    "pkg+https://pkg.freebsd.org/${ABI}/base_release_1" }' >
    /tmp/upgrade-15.1/upgrade.conf|
  * Run the upgrade command pointing to your temporary repo dir and
    ignoring mismatches: |pkg -o
    REPOS_DIR=/etc/pkg,/usr/local/etc/pkg/repos,/tmp/upgrade-15.1 -o
    IGNORE_OSVERSION=yes upgrade -r FreeBSD-base|[1

anyone know the correct way to do this? its been a long time since i
upgraded freebsd , it was way back when i did from source by cd
/usr/src/sys/i386/conf and make , and make buildkernel KERNCONF=mykernelxxx

things change over time so im behind on the newer changes.

thanks
