I would like to share a couple of points in response.

1. pkg version and successful upgrade

I can confirm that I was able to perform the upgrade successfully
using the procedure described in the thread. The version of pkg I
used was 2.6.2, and the upgrade completed without any issues
following the steps as outlined.

2. Regarding pkg-base upgrade method

I am aware of the pkg-base approach for upgrading the base system,
which is documented at:

However, I would like to hold off on recommending this method
publicly for now. As of this writing, the documentation still
carries the following notice:

   "This is still in development, so please be careful especially
    when converting an existing system to use freebsd-base."

Until this warning is removed from the official documentation, I
prefer not to introduce pkg-base as a recommended upgrade path. In
the meantime, I plan to experiment with and study the pkg-base
method on my own systems so that I am ready when it becomes more
stable. Furthermore, when the warning is eventually removed, I hope
that the FreeBSD-ports-kmod package will be automatically installed
without users having to be aware of or concerned about it.

For now, as indicated by the warning message shown during
freebsd-update upgrade, I would recommend following the ports-based
update method for those looking to upgrade their systems.
